[Abk für Industry Standard Architecture Bus, dt. »Bus nach Industriestandard-Architektur«] (PC-Bus), Busstandard (Bus) der ersten PCs (IBM-PC und entsprechende, später des AT). Er wurde 1981 in einer ursprünglichen Version eingeführt, 1984 kam eine erweiterte Version hinzu.
 
Der ursprüngliche ISA-Bus (auch PC-Bus genannt) war 8 bit breit und arbeitete mit einer Taktfrequenz von 4,77 MHz. Als sich die AT-PCs durchsetzten, wurde der ISA-Bus auf 16 bit erweitert; er hieß in dieser Form auch auch AT-Bus). Die Taktfrequenz erhöhte sich auf 8 MHz.
 
ISA-Erweiterungssteckplätze (für Steckkarten) sind entsprechend den beiden Versionen entweder 8 oder 16 bit breit. Der 16-Bit-Steckplatz ist im Prinzip nur die verdoppelte Ausführung eines 8-Bit Steckplatzes, sodass sich in ihm auch 8-Bit-Karten benutzen lassen. Die umgekehrte Möglichkeit besteht verständlicherweise nicht. EISA.
